âAre you gonna spoon feed me if I donât finish my soup?â
âProbably.â
I glared at Adam but took another bite. I had to admit, the soup was delicious, but his incessant need to feed me was getting old. I had finally started feeling well enough to venture downstairs but still had the need to nap throughout the day, so I hadnât gotten any exercise in the last week. If I kept eating like this and didnât at least start going for occasional walks, I wouldnât be able to fit into my clothes when it was time to go back to work.
âWhatâs the weather like outside?â I asked.
âA little breezy, but not too bad.â
âI think Iâm going to go for a walk before I settle in for the night,â I told Adam before I picked up my soup mug and drained the last of the broth. âThank you for dinner.â
âYouâre welcome. Did you get enough to eat?â He glanced from my soup mug to the half-eaten sandwich on my plate and then asked, âWant some dessert?â
The look in his eyes made me wonder if he was talking about something other than a sweet treat, so I decided to play along and asked, âIs there something good on the menu?â
Since that night in my bedroom, Adam and I had been tiptoeing around the kiss weâd shared. Neither of us had mentioned it, and I wondered if it was just a fluke. However, Iâd seen him watching me when he thought I wasnât paying attention, and the fire in his eyes told me that it was definitely not a fluke. Adam Forrester was into me in a big way. I didnât know where that had come from, and it terrified me to consider following through with the dream Iâd always held.
Dreams were just that. Dreams. They were the ultimate idea of what a person wanted. Adam had always been my ultimate. My dream man.
Part of me was fearful that the reality of actually having him as mine wouldnât live up to the idea, but a bigger part of me was positive that heâd exceed all expectations.
Adam had been part of my family since Daughtry fell for Jamie. Even before he was willing to admit that she was the one for him, Jamieâs sons, Adam, Joshua, and Heath, had become part of our family. Once Gamma spotted a kid in need - whether it was in need of a hug, a champion, or just a good meal - that child became one of her flock. Sheâd welcomed Jamieâs boys with open arms and been their Gamma since the day they met. If Daughtry and Jamie hadnât worked out, sheâd still be their Gamma.
Time, distance, turmoil - none of that mattered. Once you were in, you were in forever, and there wasnât much you could do to change that . . . other than some type of abhorrent behavior that would not just get you booted from the family but buried in a field somewhere. When they were kids, Gamma had taken in my father as well as Uncle Marcus and my aunts.
